The 2019 Mr. Olympia is quickly approaching. And as we get closer to the biggest competition in bodybuilding, we still don’t have an idea of who is and who isn’t going to be competing. First we got word that the reigning 2018 Mr. Olympia winner Shawn Rhoden was accused of first degree rape, and was banned from competing this year.
Well, that opened the door for several guys, including Brandon Curry. But, just when we thought that Brandon Curry was guaranteed to walk away with this year’s Sandow trophy, we started getting word that several contenders that we thought were skipping the show, might actually show up and compete. With that being said, let’s look at who we think are going to be the top five competitors at the 2019 Mr. Olympia, for now.
We had been led to believe all year that 7x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath was taking the year off to concentrate on getting ready to win his eighth Olympia tittle in 2020. Well, it looks like Phil might have pulled off the best trick of all-time on us, and his fellow competitors. Recently, a video on Instagram surfaced of Phil training, and claiming to be seven weeks out from competition shape. Phil still hasn’t released an official statement on if he is competing or not, but he sure is training like he is. If Phil does compete this year, look for him to make history, and tie Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman with eight Mr. Olympia titles.
This case is also full of speculation. Kia Green hasn’t competed in years, but he has been given a special invite to participate in this year’s Mr. Olympia competition. In a recent YouTube video, Kia neither confirmed nor denied that he was going to compete at the 2019 Mr. Olympia competition. However, he looks like he is in great shape, and in his own words said that “stranger things have happened.”
Everyone, except Phil Heath, has slept on Dexter Jackson as being a top contender for the 2019 Mr. Olympia. So, what has Dexter Jackson been doing lately? Well, he showed up to the 2019 Tampa Pro show and dominated the competition. He looks bigger, and leaner than we have ever seen him. He is a serious threat to win the Olympia title this year. Most people forget that “The Blade” won the 2008 Mr. Olympia. If Phil and Kia don’t compete, Dexter has a legit chance of winning, and becoming the oldest Mr. Olympia champion at 49 years of age.
Before we started to get word that there was a strong possibility of Phil Heath and Kia Greene competing at the 2019 Mr. Olympia, most people were already giving the crown to Brandon Curry. He won the Arnold Classic earlier in the year, and has a ton of mass, with a small waist. However, most people didn’t count on Dexter Jackson making such huge improvements over the last year. If Phil and Kia don’t compete, it should be a tight contest between Dexter and Brandon to win the 2019 Mr. Olympia title.
When it comes to sheer size, there might not be anyone as big as Roelly Winklaar. The man is absolutely massive. A recent video surfaced of Roelly, and he didn’t even look like a real person. There is no question that Roelly is huge. However, he has the largest waist out of all the previous four competitors. If you have that much muscle, you can’t help but have a larger waist. If the competition was based on sheer size, Roelly would probably win. But it isn’t. It’s based on overall size and proportions.
So, there you have our updated top five contenders for the 2019 Mr. Olympia. We still don’t know if Phil or Kia are competing, but if they do, they will be hard to beat. We will continue to update you on the top competitors for this year’s Olympia competition as we get closer to the show.
