CBD: Potential Benefits – Part 3: In the previous parts of this series we talked about CBD and its effects on Adenosine and Serotonin in the body and brain. Both having positive effects on reducing anxiety, improving sleep, and in Serotonin’s case being an anti-depressant.
A lot of hype around CBD is not just on Sleep and PTSD symptoms but also pain and soreness and its ability to reduce these regularly. Possibly leading to less use of painkillers and NSAIDs for those stuck on medications. The basic pathways that CBD seems to effect these positive changes stems from those mentioned above somewhat, but more specially CBD’s effects on the receptors called CB1 of the endocannabinoid system.
These are mostly present in the brain and interact with a feel good and analgesic called Anandamide. CBD occupies this receptor and leaves Anandamide available to work elsewhere in the body, leading to potential benefits in less pain and or improved mood. Some people associate the runners high with a release of anandamide in the body during intense and prolonged exercise. Exercises effects on depression, anxiety, and improved sleep (as long as you dont work out very close to bedtime) have been well established and this connection to Anandamide/CBD could be a piece of that puzzle.
So, we have covered a good portion of the basic ideas of how and where CBD is making the magic happen. There still needs to be a good amount of solid research and duplication of results, but its not just tied to magic or folklore. CBD has some decent science behind the stories, but as always do your homework, consult your physician and make sure to use a quality 3rd party tested product.
